All Good Things Must Come to an End.

It's been a tough couple of months as we "weather the economic storm." ReConstruct has been affected in so many ways. Some we never saw coming. We had a board meeting today and I resigned as President of ReConstruct. After discussion, the board voted to cancel the summer projects and begin the process of dissolving the organization. In looking at all the possibilities to survive, in reality there was no way.

"All good things must come to an end."

To the Board of Directors, ReConstruct, Inc.

On August 9, 1997 I can tell you without any doubt that God called me to start this organization. At that time I did what it took to get it off the ground. God has truly blessed us these past 10 years.
The past year has been the most challenging for ReConstruct and for me personally. I have struggled with whether or not the organization will continue with the challenges from Hurricane Katrina to the current downturn in the economy. However, it has become very clear to me in the past few months that with my current situation, I will not be able to commit any more time and energy to the survival of ReConstruct.
Therefore I submit to you my resignation effective on April 15, 2009 as president and board member of ReConstruct.
I want to assure you that I do not take this decision lightly. I have prayed, listened, and discerned for the right thing to do in order to provide for my future and the future of my family. This is the best course for me. I have started a new business, Morris Home Services, and so far it is providing some great opportunities to get the new venture off the ground.
I ask for your blessing and encouragement and know that you as a board member will make the right decisions for the future of ReConstruct.

Despair, Inc - #6 (This is one of my favorites, Sorry consultant friends)

If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem.

I sent this letter out yesterday.

Dear ?????,
I hope you’re doing well and that your New Year is off to a great start. As you know, 10 years ago I started ReConstruct as a result of God’s calling in my life to create a way to lead others to serve by providing them opportunities to assist low-income homeowners with home repairs.
The current economic climate, however, has created many challenges for the non-profit community and ReConstruct is not immune to these challenges. The challenges facing ReConstruct are strictly a result of the economy. There are still plenty of low-income homeowners to serve and volunteers needing the avenue to serve effectively. ReConstruct will survive but in order to weather these conditions, we are making adjustments to our plan and budget for the years ahead. One of those adjustments is to reduce our salaries for a period until the economy stabilizes and we recover our cash flow.
It has been a great 10 years and I’m amazed at how God has blessed me through this ministry. These experiences have equipped me with the ability and skills to do simple home repairs and maintenance. That is why I’m writing you.
The board of ReConstruct is allowing me to seek other opportunities to supplement my income and therefore I’m beginning a home maintenance/repair service. Here is an example of the type of services I can provide.
• Changing your HVAC filters
• Cleaning and maintaining gutters
• Simple installations (dishwashers, garbage disposals, replacement fixtures)
• Painting
• Minor repairs
I will not be able to get into major remodeling projects or additions to a home.
I wanted to plant a seed with you by saying if you or anyone you know might need this type of service, I’d more than welcome the referral and the chance to help them with a, more than competitive, price while giving me the opportunity to supplement my reduced income.
Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions about this new service or want me to come and consult with you about your home maintenance and repair needs.

Sincerely,

Paul Morris

25 Random Things about Me.

I have so enjoyed reading my friends' random things that I had to jump in the fun. Here we go!

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you.

1. I'm the youngest of FIVE kids and YES I was the spoiled one and proud of it.
2. I'm a PK (Preacher's Kid)
3. For me, being heavily involved in church is in my blood. It's how I was raised.
4. I married the love of my life almost 25 years ago. I would be incomplete without her. I literally wake every morning and go, "WOW."
5. My wife has aged like a fine wine. I've aged like Pabst Blue Ribbon.
6. I always thought I'd be a father to girls but thank God everyday that I'm a father to boys. They're the best ever.
7. I will not deny it, I love classic rock. I do. Not really any other type of music. Except what we sing at church.
8. I worked at Long John Silver's for a year. That was enough.
9. Nathan's Hot dogs are the only hot dogs that should be made. All others should be destroyed.
10. I love TAB!!!
11. I was born with one kidney and found out it is larger than a normal one.
12. I ran a printing business out of my basement for 10 years. No. It was not a counterfeit operation.
13. I ran a half marathon. (not again!!!)
14. I have a thing for cole slaw.
15. I've been to see KISS in concert twice. Def Leppard twice. And Journey twice.
16. I love the movie "Chronicles of Riddick"
17. When "The Godfather" is on. I stop whatever I'm doing.
18. On our way to the hospital, while Debo was in labor, I stopped at McDonald's.
19. I make really good chili. (With beans, the way it's suppose to be. I'll still eat my friend's Texas chili though.)
20. I didn't know how to roof a house when I started ReConstruct.
21. I have in my possession metal shingles for the roof of a home once owner by Jesse and Frank James.
22. I've owned a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Mitsubishi, and Mazda truck in my lifetime. The Dodge has been my favorite.
23. I went to see Rambo II for my bachelor party.
24. The last time I was on a tube, in the water, behind a boat, I ended up in the emergency room.
25. I used to love to listen to "Dark Side of the Moon" laying in bed in the dark. (No drugs or alcoholic beverages were involved. Really.)

Arrogance
The best leaders inspire by example. When that's not an option, brute intimidation works pretty well, too.
